With a commitment to communities that are rich in uses and opportunities, Gotham has provided services for new commercial buildings, the adaptive reuse of existing commercial buildings, the conversion of existing commercial buildings to mixed-used developments, as well as the smaller scale of creating new stores in existing spaces. Gotham has assisted small stores in obtaining approvals, permits for fit-out, and signage. On some occasions, Gotham has even helped potential business owners from the inception of an idea to completion, finding a location and doing the work to create a store. The firm is committed to the revitalization of small downtowns and sees successful small shops, stores, and businesses as key to making that happen. Main Streets were undermined by the shopping malls that came with the Great Sprawl Experiment with its auto-centric lifestyle, but e-business is now taking down the anchor stores and the shopping centers with them. The result is that boutique stores and small businesses that used to depend on the draw of anchor stores need a new location. That destination is Main Street.
